17 Jul F’SASEC VUT students undergo exams in-home installation

Examinations to test the home installation skills of the students at the state-of-the-art training centre, F’SASEC at VUT, were held from 24 June to 12 July 2019 at the Vanderbijlpark campus.

These exams will determine if the students are ready and well-enough equipped to wire a single-phase house. However, since the launch of this centre of excellence in 2012, no student has ever been deemed incompetent in this training.

The training centre strives to produce the best results and, with just 11 employees, is doing its best to produce the best electricians in the country. Mr Luvo Dubula, an alumnus of the training centre and a current lab assistant, acknowledged that the exams that the students are taking are the same as the one he wrote when he was a student at the F’SASEC. He said that he is now able to pass on his invested education and his broad understanding and knowledge of electrical engineering. Mr Dubula urged the students to take the exams seriously so as to give them a chance at a future as electrical engineers.

Mr Potego Morwamotshe, a facilitator in the training centre, noted that they have received exceptional outcomes from this year’s exams already. He also noted that this year the training centre is set to make a great history by doubling the number of graduates. Mr Morwamotshe said: “History is to be made with very intelligent and willing engineers, despite all the challenges that we are having such as some students dropping out due to finances. It is unfortunate that some students had to deregister because of their financial problems, but this challenge is being looked into and I hope everything will be solved as we desire.”

A student in the training centre, Ms Mpho Kgosane, said: “I can now pride myself and fix every electrical appliance at home!”
